Washington Redskins were founded in 1932 as the Boston Braves before being renamed the Boston Redskins in 1933 and relocating to Washington, DC in 1937 as the Washington Redskins. In 1997, they relocated to FedEx Field in Landover, MD (2nd only to Baltimore Ravens to be based in the same state) and train in Virginia.
The Redskins have won 5 NFL Championships of which the latter 3 were Super Bowls (XVII, XXII and XXVI in 1991) tied with Denver Broncos and Las Vegas Raiders.
REVIEW OF TEAM NAME
The team's name and logo have drawn controversy over its history, with many criticizing it as offensive to Native Americans which is a similar situation to that of the Edmonton Eskimos (CFL).
NEW TEAM NAME
In July 2020, events have taken a step further with sponsors pulling their support for the team and Amazon even withdrawing the sale of the team's merchandise. On 13 July 2020, the team decided to retire the 'Redskins' name due to the overwhelming pressure from sponsors, fans and the DC government and which will open up opportunities in D.C./Maryland/Virginia (DMV), which would not be possible if the 'Redskins' name was still in use.

Names being considered:
  • Redtails
  • Warriors
  • Hogs/Red Hogs
  • RedHawks
  • RedWolves
Odds Shark (Twitter) has focused on Washington's political theme:
  • Presidents
  • Generals
  • Lincolns
  • Americans
  • Kings
  • Memorials
  • Capitols
  • Veterans
  • Jeffersons
  • Roosevelts
  • Monuments
  • Arlingtons
Only time will tell as to which name will be chosen but I like the Warriors and to use a previously used helmet from 1965-1969/2002 but use the current helmet without the logo:
