NFLers is dedicated to the National Football League ('NFL') and is part of AMT FANSITES. It began in 1920 as the American Professional Football Association and was renamed in 1922. Four All-America Football Conference teams (San Francisco 49ers, Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Colts) joined in 1949. Between 1966-1969, the American Football League and NFL Champions met in the Super Bowl, before both leagues merged to form an expanded National Football League in 1970.
TEAMS
It currently has 32 teams with the Houston Texans joining in 2002. Teams are based in 30 US cities with two in Los Angeles (Chargers and Rams) and two teams representing New York but based in New Jersey (Giants and Jets). Each team is allocated college football players through the annual Draft held every April.
SEASON
Each team plays a series of pre-season games, in August, before competing in a 17-week 16-game schedule, between September and December/January, with some games played in London and Mexico City. The regular season is followed by the Playoffs which end in February with the Super Bowl. Prior to the Super Bowl, an all-star game, the Pro Bowl, takes place in Honolulu, Hawai'i (briefly in Orlando, FL).
2020 SEASON
Las Vegas Raiders have relocated from Oakland,CA (1995-2019), having previously moved to Los Angeles in 1982. Both Los Angeles Chargers and Los Angeles Rams will both share the new SoFi Stadium in Inglewood,CA. Indianapolis Colts, Los Angeles Chargers, Los Angeles Rams and Tampa Bay Buccaneers will introduce new helmets.

Washington Redskins will retire their controversial team name as deemed to be a racial slur.

The playoffs will be expanded to 14 teams, making up 7 from each conference with the #1 seeds receiving a bye week to the Conference Divisional playoffs.

2020 London and Mexico Games and Pro Football Hall of Fame Game have been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
AMERICAN FOOTBALL

American Football is played by teams of 11 players. The field is 100 yards long by 53 1/3 yards wide and has 10 yard end zones, compared to Canadian Football which is 110 yards long and 65 yards with 20 yard end zones. A team has 4 downs (not 3 like in Canadian Football) to make 10 yards/score or they lose the ball and where the Offence becomes the Defence.
