NFL EUROPA TEAMS
Frankfurt Galaxy were formed in 1991 and played in the European Division of the World League of American Football along with the Barcelona Dragons and London Monarchs. They did qualified for the playoffs in 8/15 seasons in the league and were the most successful team with 4 World Bowl titles. |
They were ressurected in the relaunch of the solely European World League of American Football with fellow WLAF teams Barcelona Dragons and London Monarchs in 1995. |
They played at the Waldstadion in Frankfurt which was renamed the Commerzbank-Arena. |
When the league folded, the Galaxy were the oldest professional football team outside of the CFL and the NFL. |
In September 2014 it was announced that the Frankfurt Football Betriebs GmbH had purchased the rights for the Frankfurt Galaxy from the NFL. It planned to rename the Frankfurt Universe, playing in the German Football League 2 into Frankfurt Galaxy and to take the former's spot in the league in 2015. An attempt to do the same in 2007 had failed because the naming rights then lay with the NFL. |
