NFL EUROPA TEAMS
Amsterdam Admirals were formed in 1995 as a member of the NFL's restart of the World League of American Football but with all teams to be based in Europe. They were one of three new teams, the others being the Scottish Claymores (based in Edinburgh, Scotland) and Rhein Fire (based in Dusseldorf, Germany), to join the old World League's European Division teams: Barcelona Dragons, Frankfurst Galaxy and London Monarchs. |
They played at the old Olympisch Stadion, built for the 1928 Olympic Summer Games, from 1995-1996 before moving to the Amersterdam ArenA in time for the 1997. During the 2000 season, the team played against the Claymores away due to Euro 2000 and returned to their former stadium. During this game, officials deemed the north end End Zone to be unsafe and so teams had to change ends at every possession and play towards the other end zone. |
The team folded due to the NFL dropping the league and subsequently focusing on expanding its international operations by way of international regular season games in the form of the NFL International Series. |
