SEASONS
1968 Season
This was the 9th season of the American Football League and the penultimate season before the league merged with the NFL. The expansion Cincinnati Bengals began play at the Nippert Stadium and brought the league to 10 teams. Bears Stadium, home of the Denver Broncos, was renamed Mile High Stadium after the city took control of the venue; and Houston Oilers moved from Rice Stadium to the Astrodome.

The third ever AFL-NFL World Championship Game (Super Bowl III) took place and is the game to be officially called the Super Bowl, following the AFL Championship Game. Due to both the Kansas City Chiefs and Oakland Raiders ending the season tied 12-2, a Western Division Playoff game was played to break the tie. The New York Jets became the first AFL team to win the Super Bowl.
