Raleigh-Durham Skyhawks were formed in 1991 as a founding member of the World League of American Football but posted a disappointing 0-10 record and were replaced by the Ohio Glory for the 1992 season. |
| Their name was inspired by the Wright Brothers' flights on the Outer Banks of North Carolina and their logo included three jet-trails and three planes that represent the three points of the Research Triangle area (Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill). |
